Beaches in the Philippines
There are so many expats now living in the Philippines and most were lucky to see their pension go a lot further in the Philippines than in Australia. They can build better homes and have a quality of life denied to them financially in Australia. Most people set up their new homes in an area where they can get to supermarkets and bars and schools.
Mostly, these places would be in places like Manila and Cebu and other major cities. So, if city life is your bag than what a great idea. It is easier to meet other expats and sit down in a bar and talk to people that understand you and talk about the old times.
The city has those huge negative points too. The traffic jams and pollution and the noise and hustle. If you live slightly out of town this is not such an issue, but driving to the supermarket into town still means facing up to that big city feeling.I have lived many years in Davao and Manila and understand that feeling.
Now I have swapped life on the metropolitan cement buildings to the huts and homes near the beach on the Island of Mindoro. There are far more positive things than negative. For instance if there is a brown out, it just means I have to spend time having coffee on the beach or going for a swim. Mostly my swimming is alone, in the sense I have the sea to myself outside the big peak times. It is my own swimming pool!!
If the water is not working I just pop to a local bar and use their facilities and have a Banana drink and watch the children play on the beach and listen to the lapping waves hitting in the rocks. Sometimes I plug in my earphones and lose myself in the music of the past and the living of now.
When the internet falls down for the 100th time and the work cannot be done I just swap those working hours around and decide that when it comes back on that’s the working day restarted. Could be 11pm or whatever, the point is that everything is really workable if you shake your head and have a big smile. Money is never enough and no trip to the cinemas or big nights out in the bars. Swap that for a drink on your own veranda and a movie from your hard drive.
When the dogs and cockerels decide that late night noise is a great idea and the locals have an all night out of tune drunken karaoke competition, it just means that the ear plugs go in deeper and the morning will have a later start.
Is this the new me?????
